A teen boy hit by a vehicle while riding his bike in the city of Washington Monday evening is on a ventilator. The family of Jonathan Gillespie Jr. told KDKA-TV he has been declared brain dead after a crash at the intersection of Chestnut and Washington streets. A former special education teacher in the Knoch School District is accused of hitting an 8-year-old student in the face.  State police have charged former Knoch Elementary School learning support teacher Carly Miller with simple assault and harassment after they say she slapped the 8-year-old student in the face for allegedly biting her on Nov. 27. "I guess he did bite her before she struck him," said Trooper Bertha Cazy.

The Shaler Area School District announced increased safety measures two months after a student boarded a school bus with a gun. The video showed the student with the gun on the bus, and it sparked outrage and induced fear among parents, forcing the district to take action. Now, the district is making changes. On Wednesday night, the Shaler Area School Board approved implementing metal detectors at both the middle and high school, and the decision was well-received among parents and students alike.

What started as a sewer project in New Kensington months ago has turned into a gaping sinkhole large enough to swallow a car. This huge sinkhole was once the size of a small pothole. But over time, neighbors say it grew. Now they're worried about kids and animals falling in. "It's really deep. They could get killed," said Beth Carswell. The Mars Area High School's REACH Program teamed up with local emergency responders for a mock crash in the school auditorium parking lot as part of the "Prom Promise" campaign this week. For a lot of students who witnessed the mock crash, they said it truly hit home. The goal was to show students the life-altering and even deadly consequences of drinking and then getting behind the wheel of a car and onto a busy highway.
