CANFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) — Children in the Valley aren’t old enough to drive, but some have a brand new set of wheels. Saturday was the 10th annual Go Baby Go event at Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, giving children with disabilities and their families a new gift. 23 new inclusive and customized toy Jeeps made their way to children and families. The remote-controlled toys will help children like Lyla Dennison.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — YSU’s faculty union has announced it’s starting a referendum on Senate Bill 1. The bill makes changes to higher education, including changes to unions and diversity equity and inclusion programs. Gov. Mike DeWine signed SB 1 on March 28. YSU-OEA is collecting signatures to get SB 1 on the ballot for Ohioans to vote on.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) — The McGuffey Centre in Youngstown hosted an awareness day aimed at protecting children called “We Need You to Survive: Youth Safety Workshop” on Saturday. Thea Howell was inspired to create the event after her own daughter was in a dangerous situation. At the event, children heard from speakers about healthy lifestyle habits like nutrition and learned defensive karate maneuvers and how to identify unsafe adults. Howell says she’s hoping to make a difference.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – According to an email sent to international students Friday, some international students at Youngstown State University have had their visas revoked. The email, from YSU President Bill Johnson, says the university is “actively engaged with the affected YSU students,” and has reached out to federal agencies and elected officials. The email was forwarded from an anonymous YSU student.

On the May ballot, there will be a renewal general fund levy for .6 mills, generating roughly $166,000.
