1 Introduction Zenker's diverticulum (ZD) is an acquired pseudodiverticulum resulting from herniation of pharyngoesophageal mucosa proximal to a dysfunctional cricopharyngeus muscle (CP). Although rare in the general population, ZD is commonly encountered in older patients presenting with dysphagia. In a tertiary swallowing center, 11% of patients with dysphagia will have cricopharyngeus muscle dysfunction (CPMD) and 6% will be diagnosed with ZD [1].
