    Editor’s Note: This is a guest commentary. The opinions do not necessarily reflect the views of the editorial board. My undergraduate class, Cultural and Linguistic Diversity in K-12 Schools, conducted a linguistic landscape project this fall. The goal of this project was to enable students to, in the ethos of Brazilian educator Paulo Freire, read the word and read the world. Research tells us that people rarely pay much attention to the linguistic landscape around them.
