Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has launched a "root and branch" Strategic Defence Review which will be overseen by Defence Secretary John Healey. Mr Healey said the review would consider the threats we face, the capabilities we need and the resources available. With a new era requiring a new type of review, the Strategic Defence Review is being headed by three external reviewers - a first of its kind for UK defence.

John Healey has been confimred as the next Defence Secretary, taking over from Grant Shapps in the wake of Labour's General Election victory. The 65-year-old is a stalwart of Labour's frontbench and has been an MP since 1997. He served in the Blair-Brown governments as well as the shadow cabinets of Ed Miliband and Jeremy Corbyn before becoming Sir Keir's shadow defence secretary in 2020. His parliamentary career has seen him back the invasion of Iraq.

You would think after becoming the first double above-knee amputee to scale the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, Gurkha veteran Hari Budha Magar would be content. But, the multi record-breaking climber wants to do more and take his message of "no legs, no limits" worldwide. In May he announced that to spread his message globally, that a disability should not limit your ability to achieve your dreams, he will be attempting to climb the highest peak in all seven continents.

Veterans living in accommodation next to Chelsea Football Club's Stamford Bridge Stadium and who had been facing eviction have told Forces News they are "relieved" they will no longer be made homeless. Under previous plans, the site which is reportedly worth £80m, would have been sold, leaving 42 former military personnel without a place to call home. Sir Oswald Stoll Mansions currently houses over 100 veterans, some of whom served in Northern Ireland and Afghanistan.

The incredible British Army's Apache Mk1 attack helicopter is finally flying off into the sunset after a 20-year career that has seen it fly a Prince to war and help remove a tyrannical dictator. Known by its enemies as the "Mosquito" and referred to by its allies as the "Friend in the Sky", the Mk1 has seen notable action in Afghanistan and Libya. "They've definitely saved thousands of lives," said Lance Corporal Sam Ferguson of 4 Regiment Army Air Corps.
