A visibly dejected Ajinkya Rahane, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain, took the blame for his side failing to chase down 112 in Mullanpur against Punjab Kings (PBKS), saying his team "batted really badly as a batting unit". After KKR were skittled out for 95 in 15.1 overs, Rahane said that his batters were pretty reckless with their shots in going after a target which was "pretty chasable". "Nothing to expect. You all saw what happened there.

Anrich Nortje had to get his bat changed after he came out to bat for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their loss against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur on Tuesday after it didn't fit the umpire's gauge. This was the first time a batter had to get his bat changed, after umpires started to check the dimensions of players' bats on the field from the two games on Sunday.

Toss Punjab Kings chose to bat vs Kolkata Knight Riders Punjab Kings' (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bat against his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Both the matches in Mullanpur this IPL so far have featured 200-plus targets and successful defences. Mohit Sharma corrects me and points out he is not 34 but 36 years old. "I will take it as a compliment, though," he says, chuckling, during our meeting in Chennai earlier this month. Despite his international career falling off the map due to a combination of back injuries and the emergence of younger, fitter, highly skilled fast bowlers, Mohit, who last played for India in 2015, has managed to find a second wind in his IPL career.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) had one of those days against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) where they didn't seem to be able to get anything right on the field. Catches went down, a bowler disgusted at the fielding wasn't in place to collect a throw for a run-out, their two big Sri Lankan spinners kept missing their lengths, and they bowled seven wides. Those innocuous down-the-leg-side ones and not the ones where you overcook defensive lines. That, though, is an execution problem.

Rahul Tewatia has been part of each of Gujarat Titans' (GT) 51 matches. He is one of only three to do so. Others are Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan. Tewatia has scored only 522 runs in 348 balls. He has bowled only 8.1 overs. He is still chosen over someone like Glenn Phillips - his injury has now ruled him out - even though GT have been playing only three overseas players. Tewatia is only one example of #NehraMaths. Ashish Nehra has built the GT team in a manner that is not, well, cool. Or T20 purist.

Gujarat Titans (GT) have shown themselves to be a pretty ruthless and unemotional side. Washington Sundar finally got a chance to play - Impact Player rule has ruined it for even slightly imperfect allrounders - in the last match, put in a match-winning innings that had commentators and experts calling him too good to be left out, but when GT returned to a red-soil pitch at home, they left him out. They didn't get carried away. They trusted M Shahrukh Khan, a specialist batter, to do the job.
