What France has experienced in the past months is nothing short of a political roller coaster: following the European elections which saw the far-right decimate opponents, left-wing forces defied expectations in national polls to form the largest political block domestically. Despite this strong showing, however, the French progressives are in a weaker position than ever before, due largely to a growing rift between politicians and their electorate.
