One year after a Mississippi man’s shocking murder, his one-time girlfriend and her parents are arrested and charged in his death. 37-year-old Caitlin Spence now faces capital murder charges in the death of 36-year-old Kirby Carpenter, who was shot to death in Tippah County, Mississippi, on Nov. 30, 2022. Spence’s arrest came exactly one year later, on Nov. 30, 2023, in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. Her parents, Karen and Jeffery Spence, were also arrested in Virginia.

“I shot her,” Tommy Powell told first responders just seconds after they knocked on the door of his home, searching for his missing girlfriend. The 55-year-old later admitted to living with her body for days, after taking out an insurance policy in her name. In August, Powell was convicted of 32-year-old Amberly Harris’ murder. Last month, he was sentenced to life in prison for the crime. Law&Crime Network obtained newly released body camera footage of Powell’s arrest on Dec. 15, 2022.

A Connecticut woman is now charged with attempted murder after she allegedly fired multiple shots into the bulletproof glass of a police department before lighting up a cigarette in the lobby. According to a police press release, 51-year-old Suzanne Laprise walked into a Bristol police department office at about 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 carrying a handgun. Police department security video captured Laprise making her way to the front desk. At the time, no one was behind the desk.

A newly released body camera video shows the shocking moments leading up to the death of 13-year-old Amber Archuleta, a young girl allegedly shot by her 14-year-old friend, Porfirio Brown. Brown shot Archuleta with a handgun at a home in Questa, New Mexico on July 28, police said. She died minutes after first responders arrived on the scene. The shooting death marked the second time in New Mexico history that an alleged gunman’s parents had been arrested after their child was accused of a crime.

A Utah man was killed in a wild police shootout after violating an order of protection filed by his ex-wife and allegedly opening fire on officers. The Ogden Police Department said 36-year-old Brian Simonton began firing at officers after they responded to a 911 call from his ex-wife claiming the suspect was violating a protective order. “He showed up unannounced. He’s hit rock bottom. I feel bad for him. I cannot have him here,” the ex-wife of Simonton told 911 dispatchers.
