AbstractIt is generally assumed that populations of the same species should evolve shared mechanisms of adaptation to common stressors due to evolutionary constraint. Here, we describe a novel system of within-species local adaptation to coastal habitats, Brassica fruticulosa, and detail surprising mechanistic variability in adaptive responses to extreme salinity.

AbstractWhole genome duplication (WGD) brings challenges to key processes like meiosis, but nevertheless is associated with diversification in all kingdoms. How is WGD tolerated, and what processes commonly evolve to stabilize the new polyploid lineage? Here we study this in Cochlearia spp., which have experienced multiple rounds of WGD in the last 300,000 years.

AbstractMore than 70% of land's cultivated area is affected by alkaline salinity stress. As 98% of plants are glycophytes, our previous research focused on comparative studies of Arabidopsis thaliana demes with adaptive performance under neutral and alkaline salinity.

New Results doi: https://doi.org/10.1101/2023.02.05.527167 AbstractMore than 70% of land's cultivated area is affected by alkaline salinity stress. Our previous research focused on comparative studies of Arabidopsis thaliana demes with differential performance under neutral (neuSAL) and alkaline salinity (alkSAL) due to local adaptation.
