    Washington state's bishops filed a lawsuit May 29 over a new law requiring clergy to report child abuse or neglect without exceptions for clergy-penitent privilege.     Scotland has seen a dramatic rise in abortions involving Down syndrome diagnoses, with government figures showing an 82% increase since 2021. A total of 60 fetuses with Down syndrome were aborted in 2024 -- almost double the number of the 33 such abortions in 2021. The increase also represents a 15% rise over the 52 abortions of Down syndrome-affected unborn babies in 2023, according to statistics released by Public Health Scotland.

North Dakota District Judge Daniel Traynor said in the Tuesday order that the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) would be “permanently enjoined” from forcing the Catholic Benefits Association and the Diocese of Bismarck to abide by the Biden-era federal rule.
