1 Introduction Non-inferiority (NI) trials aim to show a new treatment is not worse than a standard treatment by more than a pre-defined amount (the non-inferiority margin) [1-3]. NI trials are often used in settings where a new treatment may not improve outcomes compared to a standard treatment but is expected to have other benefits such as reduced cost or an improved safety profile.
