In the space of a few minutes after the final whistle of Chelsea's 2-1 home defeat to Legia Warsaw, there were two moments which betrayed just how low the mood is among the players right now. First there was the sight of Cole Palmer, one of the most exciting players in the game not so long ago, looking demoralised and dejected as he walked alone down the tunnel. The spring and swagger in his step, which everyone got to see for the first 18 months of his Chelsea career, a distant memory.

For most of his life, Pat Harding has been accustomed to being asked about his dad and his achievements. Pat is the son of beloved former Chelsea vice-chairman Matthew, who tragically died aged just 42 in a helicopter crash in October 1996 while travelling back from seeing the senior team play at Bolton. The Harding family's strong connection with Chelsea has never gone away.

Maresca has come under increasing criticism from the club's supporters for his style of play this campaign. The team were booed off at half-time and full-time when they drew 2-2 against Ipswich Town on Sunday, a result which left them sixth in the Premier League table.

On his first start since January, the on-loan Chelsea striker battled with centre-backs Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic, gave Everton an attacking platform, and linked well with team-mates. Particularly in the first half, he regularly surged from deep, evading multiple challenges, and put his team on the front foot.
