    Ted Forsyth, from Haresfinch, who made a key discovery about the Windleshaw Chantry, has died aged 83. Ted had originally started working at the chantry's grounds to help renovate the old graves located there. Over time, his interest in the history of the chantry grew and he researched the site extensively. He took the time to visit libraries and archives across the country to source and check original documents and a lot of what is known about the chantry now is due to Ted’s original research.

    Searches by the bomb squad at the house on Chadwick Road continue today. Hundreds of residents in Haresfinch have been evacuated following the discovery on Tuesday this week. In total, 234 homes have been evacuated, St Helens Council has confirmed. Displaced residents are advised in the first instance to seek overnight accommodation with family and friends if possible, the council said.

Officers from the West Leigh neighbourhood team saw the man on Wednesday, June 25, while on route to conduct a partnership visit with colleagues from the council. Police say the suspect was seen hastily leaving a shop on Wigan Road. He was detained a short distance away with a bag full of suspected stolen items.

A cordon has been in place in Haresfinch, following the discovery inside a house on Tuesday, June 24, will remain in place until at least tomorrow, Thursday, police have said in an update today.
