A fire in the Stevenage area on Thursday evening caused chaos on Britain’s prestige route. The East Coast Main Line, connecting London, Yorkshire and Scotland, was blocked for several hours. There were concerns over the availability of the line over the Easter break, as it is earmarked to provide cover for the planned closure of the West Coast route out of London Euston. Well laid out plans were jeopardised for the whole Easter weekend.
