    BACK in the 1990s, artist Graham Duncan asked several galleries if he could display his paintings and was told there wasn’t enough room for his work. Now at the age of 53, Graham has made a promise to his younger self and dedicated a new space on a wall in his own art gallery in Stratford where local artists can exhibit their work free of charge.

    IT’S another first class performance from 1st Shottery Scout Group who’ve launched their Christmas card postal service with the help of the mayor. Now in its 20th year, people can post a card for 50p or five cards for £2 in scout post boxes located at Tesco Birmingham Road; Morrisons; Co-op, Trinity Mead; Simply Fresh, Evesham Road; Stratford Library; Shakespeare Hospice Bookshop; Tesco Express, Banbury Road; Clopton Stores, and Shottery St Andrew’s Church.

    THOMAS Jolyffe Primary School pupils held their very own question time when House of Lords deputy speaker Baroness Pitkeathley visited on 22nd November. During the summer term, Year 5 pupils enjoyed a livestream with the Labour peer, who was invited to visit the Stratford school on a future date. And that’s exactly what happened when she spent nearly two hours at the school meeting pupils and staff and answering their questions.

    ONCE the battle for Gold Beach was over, Stratford war veteran Philip Sweet, now aged 100, was in an allied landing craft when he caught sight of a woman who walked along the beach and placed a rose on the dead bodies lying all around. It’s just one of the tragic and unforgettable images that Philip, then 18, witnessed on D-Day 6th June.
