The Taoiseach has said that no active farmer will have to pay the residential zoned land tax, while he is Taoiseach. Speaking to reporters in Dublin, Simon Harris was asked about reports that the tax may be deferred again in October's budget and that there are potential plans to draft a new scheme ensuring farmers are not targeted. The tax is meant to focus on people who are in possession of large land banks for lengthy amounts of time, and which are zoned for potential residential development.

The Government will "reflect" on "what action is next appropriate" into the alleged abuses of former Dr Michael Shine after his victims called for a public inquiry into what happened, Taoiseach Simon Harris has said. In an interview with the Journal.ie, a number of men who were allegedly sexually assaulted by Dr Shine while children and teenagers said they want a public inquiry into the cases to be launched.

The mandatory retirement age for prison service personnel, fire fighters, and members of the Defence Forces will increase from 60 to 62 years of age today. The new regulations have been signed by Tánaiste and Minister for Defence Micheál Martin and Minister for Justice Helen McEntee, and follow the enactment of the Courts, Civil Law, Criminal Law and Superannuation Act earlier this year.
