    The Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a North West Department of Education employee to three years imprisonment or R20 000 fine for fraud. The 40 -year old Olebogeng Modikoe allegedly created two ghost employees on the system in 2023. Modikoe, as a Principal Human Resource Officer, allegedly gave them a three-month contract. The said employees reportedly received remuneration amounting to R150 000.

    The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has clarified that the attacker in the stabbing incident at the Macadamia Military Base near Komatipoort, Mpumalanga, is one of the deceased members. It is alleged that the attacker, a SANDF member, stabbed one of his colleagues to death and injured another following an altercation. He also turned the knife to himself, to end his life. The injured member is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

    The National Press Club will dedicate an award in honour of slain journalist Sibusiso ‘Aserie’ Ndlovu. The renowned broadcaster and founder of Capital Live radio station in Pretoria together with his partner Zodwa Mdhluli have been laid to rest in Mpumalanga. They were murdered and their bodies dumped in a veld in Rust de Winter in Limpopo. Their remains were only found last month, four months after they were reported missing.

Ramaphosa who will attend on invitation of the group, is expected to share South Africa’s state of readiness to host the G20 later this year.     The Democratic Alliance says it has learnt that its former member Liam Jacobs has joined the Patriotic Alliance. The party says while it has not yet received a resignation letter from Jacobs, its constitution provides for automatic cessation when its members join other political parties. Jacobs served on the Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture. He was also leader of the DA’s Students Organisation.
