The South African Police Service (SAPS) has added a third person to the list of wanted suspects in the murder of 30-year-old Olorato Mongale. National Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says Bongani Mthimkhulu is a friend of another wanted suspect, Philangenkosi Makhanya. Mongale’s body was discovered in Lombardy in northern Johannesburg last Sunday. Police have recovered a VW Polo suspected to have been used in her murder and arrested the owner of the vehicle in Phoenix, Durban.

The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has dismissed a news report claiming that SANDF members withdrawing from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) are required to surrender their weapons while transiting through Rwanda. It says the article must be condemned in the strongest possible terms as nothing but hearsay. In a statement, the SANDF says this article is not factual and appears to be aimed at creating panic and discrediting all involved.

Former President Thabo Mbeki says the current and previous administrations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) do not understand the challenges facing the country. This comes after the DRC Parliament lifted former President Joseph Kabila‘s immunity from prosecution. DRC authorities intend to charge the former President with treason and war crimes, linking him to the M23 rebels, who have taken control of several towns in the east of the country.
