ST. LUCIE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Residents in St. Lucie County should not be alarmed if they see plumes of smoke in the area on Tuesday. The St. Lucie County Fire District (SLCFD) announced that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Savannas Preserve State Park is planning a 416-acre prescribed burn, weather permitting. The burn was initially scheduled for April 11, and will take place east of Port St. Lucie High and Savanna Club, north of Walton Road.

The Palm Beach Police Department (PBPD) said the investigation began on March 31, when the victim's son reported the theft. He explained that his mother, due to her age and health, required constant care at her apartment on S. Ocean Boulevard. The elderly victim had kept $9,000 in cash hidden inside a table in her bedroom, which her son discovered missing over time.

A survivor reported that the vessel, which departed from Bimini with nine people on board, capsized early Saturday morning around 29 miles off the coast, according to the USCG. On Sunday, a good Samaritan alerted authorities to an overturned 25-foot vessel with four people clinging to it.
