The state health department said Thursday Michigan has its first measles outbreak (defined as three or more connected cases) since 2019. That makes a total of seven cases this year, including a one-year-old girl from Ingham County. Officials say the infected child may have exposed other children at a local daycare. There are over 700 measles cases nationwide, according to 2025 numbers from the Centers for Disease Control.

University of Michigan-Dearborn students and faculty at the College of Arts, Sciences and Letters will see class size increases, course cuts and section consolidations for the winter 2025 semester, according to a Tuesday morning press release from the Lecturers’ Employers Organization. These cuts have also resulted in layoffs of non-tenure track faculty that are a part of LEO. Jamie Wraight, LEO chair of U-M Dearborn, heard that the University was looking to cut classes about two weeks ago.
