100 mn diabetics. Still no country for insulin

India had as estimated 101 million diabetics in 2023, with another 136 million people in pre-diabetic state. Among them, 11 million people are on insulin therapy. It’s a market worth nearly Rs 5,000 crore with Novo Nordisk as the leader, controlling 60%. Two other MNCs—Sanofi and Eli Lilly—control another 25%. All three companies are phasing out their insulin products in the country.

Three hours later, it dropped to #3. But that brief moment on top reminded me of why we started Daybreak in the first place Yesterday, 18 June, was a big day for us. At 6:30 am – after nearly a million downloads, more than 250 episodes, and 18 months – The Ken’s flagship podcast, Daybreak, finally hit the #1 spot on Apple charts. A few kind colleagues even ordered a cake for us to celebrate. But by the time we got to cutting it late in the afternoon, someone checked the charts again.
