It wasn't the most typical school announcement on Thursday morning as a horde of children cheered, waved and applauded as officials announced the opening of a new addition at a Surrey elementary school. Walnut Road Elementary's new prefabricated two-storey addition with 295 extra seats is open to students, eliminating the need for the 10 portables at the school, Infrastructure Minister Bowinn Ma announced Thursday morning (June 5) at the school.

Another successful fundraiser has been completed by L.A. Matheson Secondary students for a culturally sensitive senior centre. Presenting a cheque to the Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) Society, Matheson students under the support of teacher Gurpreet Kaur Bains have raised a grand total of $17,008 for the Guru Nanak Diversity Village project. This being the fifth year, students raised $1,500 in 2025.

An event to bring all those individuals and any others interested together is returning to Spirit Garden, organized by founders Joan and Jon Mara. Held on or around June Solstice annually, this year it actually falls right on the day, Saturday, June 21.

Everyone is OK after a car crashed into a stroller with a young child in it Monday night in North Delta. At about 10:30 p.m. Monday (June 2) on 80 Avenue and Scott Road, a driver was leaving a parking lot at low speed when they knocked over a stroller being pushed by a mother and father, Delta Police confirmed. A young child was in the stroller but luckily, there were no injuries reported.
