A Guildford elementary school will be getting a new playground, one that's meant to be inclusive, thanks to provincial funding. A.H.P. Matthew Elementary is one of 25 schools from different school districts across B.C. receiving $200,000 in funding from the Ministry of Infrastructure for a new, accessibly playground. "Creating safe, accessible spaces for children to play is crucial for our communities," Minister of Infrastructure Bowinn Ma said in a press release.

Charges have been dismissed against a driver who caused a fiery fatal crash at the Peace Arch border crossing in 2019. Washington State's Gurbinder Singh, 40, was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death in the May 2, 2019 crash that claimed the life of Rev. Tom Cheung. Singh's trial began in October 2024, with a decision finally coming down last week. On Thursday, April 17, the judge dismissed the charge against Singh.

Located at 19320 20 Ave. in South Surrey, a portion of the city land will be used for truck parking by the same company, Prudential Transportation Ltd., that operates four other parking lots in the city.

A parent in the Surrey school district is organizing a rally to say "enough is enough" when it comes to making cuts for students. Alison Speed, a parent with children at Ellendale Elementary, recently sounded the alarm about her child's school not having enough paper or paper towels due to a lack of funding. This rally comes on the heels of that revelation and the district's recent announcement about cutting up to 50 inclusive education support workers, or education assistants.
