    The process for the 2025 Coin of the Year (COTY) awards began in early January with a worldwide call for nominations. From roughly 7,000 coins released in 2024, mints, banks, and enthusiasts submitted nearly 550 for consideration. A nominating committee then narrowed this number into the COTY 100, which contains 100 2024-dated candidates from 38 countries. Over 35 mints and central banks are represented in this group. This selection features 10 outstanding coins in 10 specific categories.

    The year 2025 marks the end of the U.S. Mint’s American Women Quarter program. The following year, 2026, will see new quarters, a new dime, and a new half-dollar, all to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Citizen’s Coinage Advisory Committee met in the fall of 2024 to discuss the designs for the semi-quincentennial coins. Now, the Mint is calling on the people for their input for a new quarter program that will begin in 2027.
