Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will not remove two members of Michigan State University’s Board of Trustees. In March of last year, the Board asked Whitmer to review misconduct allegations related to Trustees Rema Vassar and Dennis Denno after an independent report commissioned by the university substantiated some of the allegations.

Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz says J Batt will be the school's next athletic director. At the beginning of May, Guskiewicz announced former AD Alan Haller, who had been in the position since 2021, was parting ways with the university. Batt is coming from Georgia Tech where he's served as vice president and director of athletics since 2022.

The National Weather Service is confirming a tornado touched down in Eaton County during Thursday night’s severe weather, but survey crews have not yet arrived in the area to determine how powerful the storm was. Forecasters say radar data was enough to confirm the tornado. Meanwhile, emergency management officials in Eaton and neighboring Ingham County have been spending the day surveying damage from the storms.

Mid-Michigan communities are dealing with the damage after last night’s severe weather. Strong thunderstorms brought winds of 60 miles per hour to the region, blowing down trees and damaging houses. The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings around midnight as storms moved northeast. The storms knocked out power to thousands in the area. By 2:00 p.m. on Friday, more than 12,000 Lansing Board of Water and Light customers were still without power.
