One year of tuition at USC now costs at least $73,260. That price tag has risen more than $10,000 in five years, and by about 5% for four consecutive years. This mirrors the increase of last year. USC has raised tuition for the sixth year in a row, bringing the estimated 2025-26 cost of attendance to $99,139, according to the webpage. Tuition has risen more than 25% under President Carol Folt’s tenure.

Around 50 members of United Faculty-United Auto Workers – a union made up of research, teaching, practitioner and clinical faculty – gathered in front of Bovard Auditorium to hand a letter to USC President Carol Folt and Provost Andrew Guzman asking the University to recognize the union and advance to a union election. The letter included signatures from more than 100 faculty members across 21 schools at USC.

A majority of USC non-tenured track full-time, part-time, and adjunct faculty have made public their intention to form a union. According to their Instagram, the United Faculty - United Auto Workers (UF-UAW) is “committed to making USC a more equitable institution.” By unionizing, faculty can collectively bargain for changes. The group posted on social media calling for other members of USC faculty to sign their union cards earlier today.

Graduate studies for the dependent children of faculty and staff will no longer be covered by USC’s Tuition Assistance Benefits (TAB) program, the university announced Tuesday afternoon in an email to employees. The university also announced cuts to other previous benefits: It will no longer cover the costs of graduate certificates that faculty and staff pursue.

After police discovered a man fatally stabbed in the University Park neighborhood Tuesday morning, DPS has advised students to keep campus safety resources close at hand. At 2:45 a.m. on Tuesday, LAPD identified a white male, 40, with multiple stab wounds on the sidewalk of Washington Boulevard and Oak Street, about a mile north of campus. No one has been taken into custody. Police have yet to determine a motive or a description of the suspect.

Student witnesses have identified the alleged assaulter of USC professor Danyao Li.A student called DPS at 11:05 a.m. Monday to report that a student had swung their metal water bottle at Li, hitting the professor on the head and prompting a response by medical officials and campus police. Li is an assistant professor at the Price School of Public Policy who was teaching a class in VPD 112.

USC housing workers called off a strike planned for Wednesday after reaching a tentative agreement with the university. The five-year contract, which workers ratified Tuesday, will raise wages, improve work schedules and introduce new job rights and protections for employees. This is the third strike that the university has narrowly avoided in the last year, after USC shuttle drivers threatened to strike in May and graduate students picketed six months earlier.

USC housing workers are threatening to strike next week in response to what they called illegal bargaining practices on the part of the university. Roughly 30 workers — including maintenance staff, technicians, painters and customer service representatives — say they plan to walk off the job. “Our negotiations have been severely hurt by USC managers’ disrespect, retaliation, and bad-faith bargaining,” said Angel Moreno, a maintenance worker, in a press release.
