In this co-written paper we have shared learnings from a creative workshop which helped to shape the culture of a clinical trial. We have found that a shared creative space enabled us to move beyond “research outputs” and “deliverables”, and foreground opportunities to connect and be human together.

This study demonstrated four key pillars in the foundations of women’s engagement with perinatal mental health services. It demonstrated that women’s engagement was underpinned by their perceptions of service providers’ perinatal competence. The way perinatal competencies were relayed to women also mattered; compassion, accurate understanding and reliability and consistency were all critical interactional styles that helped build strong therapeutic relationships.

The UKB is a health study of ~ 500,000 individuals recruited between 2006 and 2010 in the United Kingdom, aged 40–70 [12]. Linked primary care records are available for ~ 230,000 individuals (46%), encompassing clinical events, blood test results and prescriptions, providing longitudinal patient information [13]. UKB participants with primary care records were classified into T2D cases and controls. T2D cases met specific T2D diagnostic criteria (detailed below), while controls did not.

AbstractThis study evaluates longitudinal associations between glycaemic control, measured by mean and within-patient variability of glycated haemaglobin (HbA1c) levels, and major depressive disorder (MDD) in individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D), focusing on the timings of these diagnoses. In UK Biobank, T2D was defined using self-report and linked health outcome data, then validated using polygenic scores.

In 2011 a paper was published in this journal on issues we need to consider if cognitive remediation was going to be accepted into mental health services. It had the imposing title of “Thinking about the Future of Cognitive Remediation.”1 The authors, Til Wykes and Will Spaulding, roamed around the field justifying cognition as a potential target for treatment, trying to clarify potential treatment mechanisms, and suggesting how future clinical trials should be designed and reported.
