In a third-year earth sciences course at MacEwan University, students train their microscopes on small plant and animal subfossils collected from soil, sediment, bone and other samples. By going beyond rote work with prepared slides, students get hands-on experience with sample analysis and the chance to discover clues about how the environment has changed over thousands of years.

The University of Prince Edward Island has detailed the steps it’s taking to address the controversial findings of the University of Prince Edward Island Review in a recently released implementation plan. The review was initiated following the 2021 resignation of the then-president amidst widespread workplace misconduct allegations. Released in June 2023, the review looked at both the allegations as well as the university’s harassment and discrimination policies and practices.

The Government of the Northwest Territories has introduced a new Post-Secondary Education Accountability Framework, outlining performance measures and a reporting structure for postsecondary institutions in the region. Announced on July 4, the framework applies to any institution authorized under the territories’ education act.
