Since the end of 2024, sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific Ocean have been cooler than usual. This is indicative of La Nina conditions. As a reminder, La Niña and El Niño are the two main phases of ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation). There is also a neutral phase, which represents when sea surface temperatures are neither more nor less than 0.5°C away from the average. Both El Niño and La Niña have distinct and well-known impacts on weather patterns all across the globe.

It's quite pleasant outside today in the Coachella Valley with mild temperatures, dry conditions, and mostly calm winds. There are some elevated breezes this afternoon, especially near the San Gorgonio Pass and parts of the west valley, but these winds are unlikely to have any major impacts. We continue to cool off day by day. By tomorrow, a low pressure system will move into California, bringing some breezy to gusty conditions to the valley.

It's a warm start to the workweek here in the Coachella Valley. Temperatures today are in the mid-low 90s, along with some moderate cloud cover throughout the afternoon. There is an area of high pressure near the Pacific Northwest and a low pressure to our west in the Pacific. The low will eventually merge with another low to the north around midweek, bringing cooler temperatures and breezy to gusty conditions to the valley.

The time has come... tens of thousands of people are flocking to the Coachella Valley for weekend one of Coachella! They are being greeted by near-record highs, blue skies, calm winds, and dry weather. Thanks to a persistent ridge of high pressure building over the Southwest, temperatures will only continue to rise into tomorrow. A trough will move into the region on Friday, bringing a slight uptick in winds for Friday and Saturday.
