    It feels like a lifetime ago, yet here we are, five years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. I’ll never forget the dramatic shift that life took. It was like someone hit the reset button on a video game; everything came to a halt — everything, that is, except for my job. There is no such thing as working remotely as a photojournalist; drone technology was not and is still not advanced enough for me to cover assignments from the comfort of my couch.

    Anyone picking up the paper or scrolling through Itemlive is surely familiar with my credit line appearing under numerous photos. Becoming a photojournalist was never something I planned on, rather a very lucky combination of being in the right place at the right time. A gentleman by the name of Fran Delano put me in touch with Ted Grant, the publisher of The Daily Item, which set me on the path to where I am today. I love my job.

Well, after successfully taking care of my houseplants for years, it was definitely time to take on some new responsibilities.     LYNN — A kitchen fire that spread into the walls of 28 Arlington St. was contained to the first floor on Wednesday. Lynn District Fire Chief Joseph Zukas said when the Fire Department arrived there was “smoke puffing out of the attic.”He said during the assessment of the fire he found “several illegal apartments” in the basement of the complex, as well as on the third floor. “If it happened in the middle of the night, there could have been a fatality,” Zukas said.
