AbstractBackground: The Anna Karenina Principle predicts that stability in host-associated microbiomes correlates with health in the host. Microbiomes are ecosystems, and classical ecological theory suggests that predators impact ecosystem stability. Phages can act as predators on bacterial species in microbiomes.
