NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The federal political corruption trial against former Republican and Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives Glen Casada and his former Chief of Staff Cade Cothren will begin Tuesday, April 22, with jury selection in Judge Eli Richardson’s courtroom. Casada and Cothren face 20 federal counts of conspiracy, public corruption by fraud, bribery and name concealment, and money laundering.

WAVERLY, Tenn. (WSMV) - People living in floodplains in Waverly are being warned by city officials to have an escape plan in place if Trace Creek breaches its banks. In a Facebook post on Thursday, the Waverly Department of Public Safety issued the warning, citing that the creek is already at capacity. The warning comes from federal court records showing that a trial date is set for Feb 3, 2026, on a lawsuit against CSX Transportation, sparked by the deaths of 20 people in August 2021.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Metro Nashville Public Schools is proposing an expansion of its concealed weapons detection systems pilot to put systems in all district high schools. MNPS reports that the Board of Education will vote on the proposal Tuesday. If approved, the proposal would amend the district’s existing contract with security vendor System Integrations to lease and install Evolv systems.
