In an evening of severe weather, a tornado did extensive damage to two towns in Randolph and Delaware counties. But, as IPR’s Stephanie Wiechmann reports, officials say the storm could have been much worse. In Winchester, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department says overnight reports of mass casualties on social media were false. Winchester Mayor Bob McCoy says 38 people were injured, three critically. No one died. The damage in Winchester, he says, is extensive.

Saturday at 1 p.m. in Worthen Arena the Ball State women’s basketball Cardinals host Toledo in a showdown of two of the three first place teams in the Mid-American Conference. It’s senior day — the last home game of the season for Ball State. The Cards are 23-and-5 overall and 13-and-2 in the MAC. Toledo is 22-and-4 overall and 13-and-2 in the MAC. The third of the three first-place teams, Bowling Green, plays Buffalo at home Saturday.

Ball State’s women’s basketball Cardinals racked up their 23 win of the season last night at Worthen Arena, shellacking Western Michigan 80 to 49. After a close first quarter ending with a Ball State lead of 21 to 17, the Cards broke the game open outscoring the Broncos 27 to 10 in the second stanza. Western’s 49 points were the fewest allowed by Ball State this season. Anna Clephane scored 14 points, Ally Becki added 13 points, and Marie Kiefer and Annie Rauch contributed 11 points each.

Ball State’s men’s basketball Cardinals got their 20th victory of the season with a big win at home last night against Kent State, 82-70. Yet again, five Cardinals scored in double figures, led by Jaylin Sellers with 20 points. The first half was back and forth with Kent State leading at the half 33 to 32. After the intermission, the Cards came out with a 16-to-3 run, on the way to the win. Ball State is 20-and-8 overall and 11-and-4 in the Mid-American Conference.
