1 Introduction About 75% of the world's coastlines are rocky (Bird, 2011). These rocky shores hold great biological interest due to their diverse and productive species assemblages (Denny, 1995; Menge & Branch, 2001; Schiel & Foster, 2015; Witman & Dayton, 2001), where wave and current dynamics play a critical role in larval dispersal, recruitment, and ecological interactions. Wave and current processes of sandy beaches have been examined thoroughly over the last decades.
