Defined as the central 95% range of a presumably healthy population’s values, RIs help determine whether a lab result should be considered “pathological” or not. Traditionally, these intervals are established using direct methods, which involve measuring analyte levels in a sufficiently large and well-characterized healthy reference group [1].
