Walking down the pet food aisle today feels like navigating a world of uncharted territory. Gone are the days of limited choices. Now, pet owners are met with a dazzling array of options, not just in terms of flavors and brands, but in the source of protein itself. While novel animal proteins have been around for a while, a new wave of excitement is building around plant, yeast, and insect-based proteins emerging as practical alternatives in pet food.

DiscussionTo the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to report the incidence of illness and injury sustained by staff members from a single national delegation supporting athletes during a Summer or Winter Olympic or Paralympic Games. Each delegation’s respective staff members are critical contributors towards the delegation’s success and the success of the Games overall.

MethodsThe epidemiological data presented in this study were collected as part of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) injury and illness surveillance programme during the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games (SOG), the Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games (SPG), the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games (WOG), and the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic Games (WPG).
