Last week, a total of four meetings took place over two days to introduce the reasons why the change is being considered, the expected benefits and the hurdles that must be overcome. While the Crawford County Judicial Complex made it through the recent heavy rains unscathed, the same was not true for the county annex building. County Commissioner Daniel Crecelius told both his board and the county council during meetings on April 8 about the leaky roof on the annex building. Many of the county’s original and irreplaceable records are stored in that building, where county historian Roberta Toby volunteers along with others.

Living far above the Ohio River − hawks fly by at eye level −Randy and Kathy Coleman of Leavenworth never dreamed heavy rains that inundated the area last week would affect them. The river crested at 10 feet above flood stage in the worst high-water event since 1997, leaving the majority of the Old Town submerged. And while the river’s waters didn’t damage their home, the heavy rainfall certainly did.
