    Jill Schneider gets to exit as a champion. The longtime Monterey girls basketball coach will retire after the school year, according to multiple reports. Schneider led the Plainsmen to the Class 5A Division II state championship in March. A member of the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, Schneider coached at Monterey for 27 seasons. She began her head-coaching career at Borger in 1986 and finished with more than 740 wins. Schneider was also a standout player.

    Monterey football coach Judd Thrash was arrested and charged with DWI on Saturday. Lubbock Police arrested Thrash near the intersection of Quaker Avenue and 130th Street, according to Lubbock County jail records. He faces a second charge of failure to leave information after causing damage to a fixture or highway landscape. The 43-year-old Thrash bonded out the same day. The Avalanche-Journal reached out to Lubbock ISD but did not receive an immediate response.
