WOODROW — Through 12 innings of its area-round series, the Denver City baseball team couldn't break through. Following a 5-0 loss in the opener, the Mustangs again found themselves in a hole late in Friday's Game 2 against Littlefield. It wasn't pretty, but Denver City managed to turn things around and extend its season. The Mustangs scored two runs on a two-out error in the sixth inning, and pitcher Jacen Yanez went the distance in a 3-1 win over the Wildcats to even the series.

Monterey is officially in search of a new head football coach. Lubbock ISD posted a job opening for the athletic coordinator/head coach position on its website Friday, signaling the district is moving on from football coach Judd Thrash, who also served as athletic coordinator at Monterey. Last month, Thrash was arrested for DWI and placed on administrative leave. The Avalanche-Journal contacted Lubbock ISD earlier Friday to inquire about Thrash's standing with the district and was sent a statement.
