As the Section 1 baseball tournament concluded last weekend, five champions were crowned and several standouts were celebrated. The semifinals and finals were highlighted by some primetime pitching performances. As such, we've got five of those starters featured here. Who will be the lohud Baseball Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital? Last week's winner was Mamaroneck's Luke Reagins.

PURCHASE — A famous poet once said there's "beauty in the struggle," essentially meaning that the value of an accomplishment is amplified by the challenges overcome in its completion. Of course, most high school baseball teams in this region would envy what Roy C. Ketcham considers hardship. But, as another famous writer once said, "struggle is in the eye of the beholder." Or something like that.

Stephen HaynesRockland/Westchester Journal NewsWith the Section 1 baseball playoffs concluding this weekend, and the Class C finals already underway, championships are within reach for the handful of elite teams still standing. The double-elimination semifinals for Class AAA, AA, A and B semifinals began May 24 and their finals will begin May 31 at Purchase College. Class AAA: Roy C. Ketcham, Mamaroneck, Scarsdale and Arlington are vying for the title.

With the Section 1 baseball playoffs underway, the last week has been highlighted by several spectacular performances, including upset wins and excellence in the clutch. Who will be the lohud Baseball Player of the Week, presented by White Plains Hospital? Last week's winner was Harrison eighth grader Ryan Lemm, who edged out Brandon Stabile of Iona Prep.

The quality of the portable toilets wasn’t much of a factor, obviously, but the willingness of the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School rowers to share with each other stories of their strange race day experiences was an early indication of their camaraderie.
