Sport New Zealand also includes High Performance Sport New Zealand (HPSNZ), which funds elite sport and has an annual budget of $194 million - $84 million of which goes to HPSNZ.

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) is taking a stake in Major League Cricket in the United States, partnering with a US company to establish a new team in the competition from 2027. MLC currently features six franchises, with the likes of the Los Angeles Knight Riders and the San Francisco Unicorns owned by Indian Premier League franchises the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings respectively.

Relations between the Black Caps and New Zealand Cricket have soured amid a stand-off over digital image rights, with the Players Association saying its relationship with NZC is at an all time low. The dispute centres around the digital use of Names, Images and Likeness (NIL) and their use by Indian company Nautilus Mobile in the app Real Cricket, for a game called WorldCricket20.

New Zealand's most successful Paralympian Dame Sophie Pascoe has announced her retirement from competitive swimming. The 32-year-old who competed at four Paralympics, winning 11 gold, seven silver and one bronze medal, did not compete in Paris last year following the birth of her first child.

After an historic first test win the Black Caps are expecting no favours from the Pune pitch, for what shapes as a possible series deciding match. The Black Caps broke a 36-year drought by beating India by eight wickets in the first test in Bengaluru to go one nil up in the best of three series. Rachin Ravindra was the guiding light scoring a first innings century and then finishing unbeaten on 39 as New Zealand chased down their target of 107 for the loss of just two wickets.

The All Blacks have bought in 'the Professor' as they look to overcome a worrying trend. The Professor is Sir Wayne Smith - the former All Black player and coach. He was assistant coach during the All Blacks World Cup wins in 2011 and 2015 and coached the Black Ferns to World Cup success in 2022 and is regarded as one of the best tacticians in the game world-wide.

The inaugural cricket test between New Zealand and Afghanistan has become just the eighth test in the nearly 150 years to be abandoned without a ball being bowled. No play has been possible on any of the five scheduled days due to a combination of a poor drainage system and wet weather. The match referee will now complete a report on the standard of the venue and present it to the ICC, which could put the Greater Noida ground - hosting its first test - in jeopardy of losing its test status.

Black Caps centurion Lou Vincent has finally received recognition for the playing milestone nearly two decades after playing his 100th one day international for New Zealand. At a private function in Auckland recently, he was presented with his official centurion cap by New Zealand Cricket great Sir Richard Hadlee. Vincent played 102 ODI's, 23 tests and 9 T20's for New Zealand with his last international match being in 2007.

Injury has forced Lulu Sun to withdraw from her debut match at the US Open in New York after just one set. Sun went into the match on the back of her first finals appearance, having finished runner-up at the Monterrey Open in Mexico at the weekend. Her world ranking had risen to 41 after her quarter-final appearance at Wimbledon, but she took the court with her left ankle heavily strapped and appeared to struggle with a hip injury as her match against 76th-ranked Italian Lucia Bronzetti wore on.
