The Brooks Bandits didn’t score much Friday night but thanks to solid goaltending from Zach Zahara, they scored enough to take a 2-1 victory over the Sherwood Park Crusaders in the opening game of their BCHL semi-final. Keith McInnis scored both goals for the Bandits, which were sandwiched around a Crusader goal from Lucas Brennan late in the first period that sent the two teams into the dressing room tied after one period.

The scintillating victory was Calgary’s third straight, giving them a 3-2 lead in their second-round series, with Game 6 scheduled for Saturday night in Lethbridge. An investigation is underway following a house fire in the southeast Calgary community of Lynwood early Saturday morning. At around 12:35 a.m., the Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of a fire at the 100 block of Lynwood Crescent, where they were met by residents and a detached, single family home with smoke and flames coming out the back of the house. The fire was spreading quickly from an outdoor deck to the rear of the house, a garage and a tree.
