The Niger government says it has constituted a committee to revitalise Almajiri education in reducing the number of out-of-school children in the state. Shuaibu Gwada, the chairman of the committee, visited Abubakar Yahaya, the Estu Nupe and chairman of Niger state traditional council rulers, in Bida. The Almajiri refers to a system of Islamic education practised in northern Nigeria.

Education sector stakeholders across Africa have asked governments on the continent to set and enforce clear standards for the integration of technology into school curricula. About 600 stakeholders from over 30 countries in Africa and beyond came together in Abuja at the inaugural Mastercard Foundation EdTech Conference.

June 11, 2022, was meant to be a memorable day for the Irinedu community in Kogi state as two residents — Muhammad Zeid and Muhammad Sulaimon — were set to get married. Zuleiha, one of the brides, couldn’t wait to forgo her maiden name and adopt “Zeid” as a surname. The other bride, Hauwa, was also eagerly waiting for Sulaiman to pay her bride price. Over 200 people, including the couples, boarded a massive local boat headed for Ganaja village jetty at the heart of Lokoja, the state capital.
