We need a miracle in the Stamford Public Schools—at least 15.4 million dollars to cover 120 positions (ESSR=8.9 million) and ELL (English Language Learner=6.5 million) program supports. How does this happen? First, the Board of Education and central office leaders need to consider these questions:Is the City of Stamford, who gladly took SPS Covid monies in 2020 (12.5 million dollars was used to cover property taxes), willing to return the favor in 2024?

To the Editor:On October 4, 2023, I sent the following email to the Lyme Select Board (Republican David Lahm and Democrats John Kiker and Kristina White) and to town’s DTC and RTC:“Attached please find my most recent letter to the editor in CT Examiner, which addresses your failures to respond to my previous one: ‘Cowardice of the Anti-Democratic Movement Embarrasses Lyme’I look forward to your response in that newspaper.

Since 2015, there has been only one contest in Lyme for the Select Board; in four other cases, the Select Board members themselves chose their successors rather than competed in honest elections. The DTC and RTC assist this practice through cross-endorsements or by not running candidates. Eventually—and twice since 2017—the First Selectman steps down during their term, allowing the remaining two members to elevate one of themselves and to appoint a wholly unelected third person to the board.
