DARIEN — Nearly two years after Darien opted out of a state law permitting accessory apartments, sometimes referred to as in-law suites, the Planning and Zoning Commission has proposed zoning changes to allow the units. The amended regulations would permit residents to build or convert existing space into additional living quarters on their properties, and apply to any separate living space with an indoor cooking facility, such as a stove, hotplate or microwave.

LYME-OLD LYME — The Lymes’ Senior Center Building Committee will ask Lyme and Old Lyme residents to vote at town meetings in April for an $880,000 additional appropriation for renovations of the senior center, a project that is now seven months behind schedule. At Wednesday’s committee meeting, Chair Jeri Baker said that approval of the additional funding was essential before the project’s bid expires May 6.

STAMFORD – Connecticut has received $21.8 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation as part of an effort to boost communities that fail to thrive because they are cut off by highways, rail lines and other infrastructure. Most of the federal money to Connecticut, $17 million, has been awarded to Stamford, where it will be used to connect the struggling West Side to the prosperous downtown and growing South End.
