Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg admits it’s “very special” to be playing for the club after coming through the academy to cement his place in the first team. Hebburn-born Rigg spent six years in the Black Cats’ academy setup before making his first-team debut in an FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town in January 2023 at the age of 15, making him the second youngest player in the club’s history.
