After a pandemic-fueled boating boom in 2021, the number of registered vessels in Connecticut is steadily declining. In 2021, amid the height of the pandemic, there were 93,074 registered vessels in Connecticut, according to data from the state’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Since then, those numbers have been steadily declining. In 2022, there were 91,161 registered vessels, and in 2023, there were 89,699 registered vessels filed with the state.

Connecticut’s annual mosquito management program began on Monday to monitor the insects for the presence of viruses that can cause illness in people, including West Nile virus and eastern equine encephalitis virus, officials said. The mosquito trapping and testing program, conducted by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station, lasts until the end of October, according to officials.
