Payments ecosystems are often categorized as either closed-loop or open-loop systems, each with distinct advantages and limitations. Closed-loop systems, such as single-provider mobile wallets like M-Pesa, Venmo or PayPal, operate within a restricted network, limiting transactions to specific merchants or users who have the same provider. These systems often have a great user experience for specific use cases and speed to market new tools and efficient processing.

My beloved bride and her sister have spent the past six months renovating our home, making improvements to every surface. This framework was the result of a multi-stakeholder process that collected lessons learned from existing implementations and sought to “ensure DPI implementations mitigate risks at both the individual and societal level, advance the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and foster trust and equity across all countries,” according to the Safeguards Initiative website.
