ALBANY — The city will open nine spray pads for the summer at 10 a.m. on Monday. The spray pads will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and admission is free. The spray pads will be open in Black Lives Matter Park, Krank Park, North Swan Street Park, Ridgefield Park, Rosemont Park, Sheridan Park, Upper Lincoln Park, Westland Hills Park and the Clinton Market Collective.

ALBANY — A 31-year-old city woman is facing 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to a July 22 slashing. Ocya Easley admitted on Friday that on July 22, 2024 she cut a victim’s arm and leg, causing deep wounds that required emergency surgery, according to the Albany County District Attorney's Office. The attack was caught on video by bystanders as Easley chased the victim down the street. Easley was sent to the Albany County jail. Her sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 1.

ALBANY — Former general manager David Eslinger will avoid state prison for stealing more than $42,000 from the Albany Rural Cemetery if he can pay back nearly half of the money in a year. Acting State Supreme Court Justice Roger McDonough sentenced Eslinger to one year's interim probation on Friday. Under his plea deal, Eslinger must pay $20,000 of the $42,229 he embezzled from the historic cemetery within that year.

ALBANY — The four candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for mayor squared off in an hour-long debate Thursday evening, with Dorcey Applyrs trying to tie fellow candidate Dan Cerutti to the Republican Party. The debate at Spectrum News studio featured Applyrs, the chief city auditor; Cerutti, the CEO of Maia Care; Common Council President Corey Ellis and Albany County Legislator Carolyn McLaughlin.

ALBANY — The $200 million for downtown Albany is now a reality. The next step is to figure out what to do with it. Gov. Kathy Hochul trumpeted the inclusion of nearly $400 million for downtown Albany in the recently passed state budget. The funding includes $200 million for projects meant to revitalize downtown Albany and $150 million for an Empire State Development Corporation-led revitalization of the state museum and other cultural experiences.
