A surgical team operates on a canine patient at the Friends of PACC Community Pet Clinic. A new non-profit pet clinic will soon open its doors in Tucson, with the goal of helping owners keep their animals when they face serious veterinary costs. It’s run by the non-profit “Friends of PACC,” which supports the county-owned Pima Animal Care Center. Gary Zimnoch is the former CEO of a veterinary hospital in Tucson, who came out of retirement to help the clinic get started.

Longtime Arizona Congressman Raúl Grijalva has died after a year-long battle with cancer. Grijalva was 77 years old. Grijalva announced in October that he would not be seeking a 13th term in the U.S. House of Representatives. AZPM will have more on Grijalva’s life and accomplishments. Since the Trump Administration shut down the system for immigrants to apply for asylum in the US, the flow of migrants into Pima County’s two “respite centers” has dried up. In the next few days, the county’s shelter on Drexel Road and the Casa Alitas shelter on Ajo Way will see their final asylum-seekers head off to live with relatives somewhere in the US.

Mayor of Marana Ed Honea. Marana Mayor Ed Honea died today. He was 77. Honea served as the town’s mayor for two periods totaling over twenty years. He began his current term in 2005. He was part of a long-time Marana family, graduating from Marana High School in 1965. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam conflict and worked as a postal service contractor until retiring in 2007.
