Owens Corning is closing its door manufacturing facility in the central Oregon city of Prineville. A WARN notice issued by the state Tuesday shows workers will be laid off starting August 25, though some will be asked to stay on for a wind down period lasting as late as Nov. 30. The Prineville location is one of three Oregon production facilities listed on the company’s website. The other two are in Portland and Gresham.

If you walk through the Eugene Hotel Retirement Community today, you get a glimpse of the building’s storied history. “We tried to capture the charm of the building from the past, from way back when, decades and decades ago,” said Lindsey Black, EHRC’s Community Relations Director. That history hangs on the walls, from photos to memorabilia of its 100 years in operation.

A handful of small fires in recent weeks show that wildfire season has arrived in the Pacific Northwest. And that has fire crews around the state preparing for what could be a busy season. As fire concerns grow, local fire departments in Oregon that spend most of their time fighting fires that occur in buildings are making sure their firefighters are equipped with the skills that are needed to fight fires on open land and in forests.

Roseburg’s Eagles Park has some new pieces of equipment, thanks to a donation from a local company. And the donors say the new additions can bring fun for all ages. Stone Age Concrete Games donated a concrete ping pong table and concrete cornhole boards, which were recently installed. The inspiration to begin a company making the tables came from a trip that founder Lem James took to Germany about 30 years ago to visit family and friends.

Hundreds gathered Wednesday evening in front of the Lane County Courthouse to protest recent actions by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers and the treatment of fellow protestors in Los Angeles. The event happened a few days before nationwide protests are planned on Saturday against President Donald Trump, including in Eugene. "The concern was we didn't want this to get ripped into general discontent with the Trump regime and with his policies.
