While the snow totals in the Sierra Nevada don’t match the measurements from the past two years, the latest Nevada Water Supply Outlook indicates Northern Nevada and the Carson River watershed remain in good shape, according to the latest measurements. The April SNOTELS (snow telemetry) readings in the basins show 94-103% in the Sierra Basins and upward to 155% of normal across Northern Nevada, reports the Natural Resource Conservation Service.

A student display of various art had a community reception Thursday at Western Nevada College’s Fallon campus. Entitled “Whisperings of the Nevada Desert,” the exhibit primarily features paintings and other pieces depicting Nevada’s culture. The exhibit will be available for public viewing through April 21 followed by another exhibit featuring WNC students. Amanda Hammond, an art teacher at Churchill County High School, said a showcase of her students’ art hasn’t been done before at WNC.

FALLON — During his three years in the Lahontan Valley as the commander of Naval Air Station Fallon, Capt. Shane Tanner immersed himself not only in the local community, but also in his duties as a naval officer. When he reported in March 2022 to what the Navy calls that hidden jewel in the Nevada desert, Tanner rolled up his sleeves, set out to improve the quality of life for the sailors assigned to the air station and became a familiar face at numerous events in the Lahontan Valley.
